Original U.S. Pre-WWII Bombay Bowler Style Safari Pith Helmet by Bailey Of California Category_Night Sights In the late 17th centuryOriginal Item: Only One Available. This helmet is fascinating piece of history. Privately purchased officer's helmets such as these were commonly known as "Bombay Bowlers." They were mostly made in India for the British military. However, this helmet was sold onto the civilian American market and specifically to the retailer BAILEY located in California during the 1930s. Bailey Hats was founded in 1922 and still exists today! The inside crown reads :
